Horse Ground Work at Liberty
I'm a completely amateur horseman but love spending time with Belle, my 16 year old mare. I've recently started experimenting with ground working her at liberty, that is, with no halter/rope. We are in a 1 acre pasture and she is free to be anywhere in that acre. My entire time working with her was probably about 45 minutes. I never used the halter/rope to get her to come to me. There's one shot where you see me "retrieve" her when she ran off to her stall barn. You can see that she will come freely, then circles once or twice then runs to the camera and knocks it over! We certainly have ways to go to look smooth and partnered but it sure is amazing to even be working with her at this level. I've found it extremely fun and challenging.

A blessing from our dying watermelon vines this morning. A harvested 15 lb. watermelon cuts open to red, sweet fruit. We each devour 1/2 of it for breakfast.
Sunrise Over Good Soil Farms
Переглядів 282 роки тому
Sat·ur·day /ˈsadərˌdā,ˈsadərdē/: the seventh day of the week I call "Sabbath". The day when I get up early, drink hot cocoa and watch the sunrise. The day for rest, meditation, reflection. Initial disappointment at the overcast sky gave way to anticipation as the low-layer clouds moved off to reveal a view of blue sky and brighter clouds. There are many chapters in our lives when our view - our...

Watermelon At Good Soil Farm

Our Florida-grown, natural (pesticide and synthetic fertilizer free) watermelon are growing great on a six-inch raised bed of mulch and fines on cardboard laid over tarp-killed grass in sand. I'm starting to add compost tea for nutrient and biological supplements.
Good Soil Farm Update - August 2021
Переглядів 112 роки тому
We are deep in the heat of Florida summer now. Outside work around the farm during the day is super uncomfortable and even dangerous if you push it in the heat. On the weekends we work in the morning and do less strenuous tasks during the heat of the day. Progress remains fairly slow on the farm with both of us still working full-time corporate jobs. But there is progress. The underground irrig...
First Power-drawn Water from Good Soil Farm Well

We have had our well in the ground for 2 months. We do not have electric service yet. We just got a generator today and I have wired it up to the pump directly. This is the 1st time I've run the generator and run the submersible well pump. This is the 1st time we get water power-drawn from the well and pumped through the irrigation system.

Well that didn’t work! Hopefully they put it on a pole which reach the sides but still need one for the back. Either a mat on the ground and something about the height of a horses back that was spring loaded for the different size horses to scratch their back. I would think it would help them stay clean

Enjoyed the video! Everything looks good. You two have been busy having fun growing and air-rating the compost pile. I suppose that’s the way experts do it without disturbing the natural organic webbing of good undisturbed soil. 👍

you can tell this is a prey animal. they are super-cautious. Any hands clapped together there at that moment & they would've scattered! Hopefully the owner mounts it in an upright position so the horses could use it

I’m very impressed with your progress with the garden plots, the variety of flowers, and your nature’s way composting procedures that are totally new to me but obviously beneficial to growing healthy organic flowers and produce. So enjoyed the tour and seeing you, Stephanie and Belle being herself and rolling on the ground! Love it all and pray your efforts will be very rewarding! Can’t wait to see it in person! ♥️

I rode at a barn that purposely made us jump over those sometimes just to clean the horse’s feet. We’d jump it at a low speed so they’d stop and run their feet through at a walk lol.
